Bob Cohen's Friday Nature Field Trip in Coal Creek Canyon from 9 am to noon:
Both this trip and Bob's Tuesday trip will be for participants who enjoy nature but do not wish to do a strenuous hike. Both of
Bob's hikes will be leisurely strolls, will emphasize birds and plants of the local region. Irit Cohen, micro-biology professor will also join us.
The Friday morning trip will begin at 9:00 at the residence of Bob and Irit Cohen and will then involve a stroll along local mountain roadways and trails, returning to the Cohen residence by approximately noon.
The plan is to car-pool with those who have cars. The drive from Comfort Inn to the Cohen residence takes about 1 hour - please
leave downtown Denver by 8:00 am. You should be back at Comfort Inn by 1 pm.
The elevation at the home of Bob and Irit is 8,030 ft (2,449 m), and during the stroll we may reach an elevation of
9,000 ft (2,775 m).
At this elevation the temperature will likely be 10 to 15 degrees F (about 5 to 7 degrees C) lower than in Denver,
there may be stronger winds, and the UV intensity will be higher. Any physical activities at this elevation tend to be
dehydrating. One must drink water occasionally, even if not thirsty.
Participants should have good walking or hiking shoes, a hat and a light jacket. Bring plenty of water, a strong sunscreen,
strong insect repellent and a food snack. If nature calls ... there is nature all around you ...
Please register for this event by emailing Bob at
bobcohenTS@aol.com or calling him at 303-642-0952. Please provide the following information:
1. Your name. city, state, email and phone
2. Whether you will have your own vehicle at the meeting, and if so, how many riders you can take with you.
3. Whether you will have your own binocular field glasses. Bob and Irit will have several loaners.
Cohens' residence is at 31760 Hilltop Road, Golden, CO 80403. If you don't have GPS, here are
driving directions.
Please park along the W side of the driveway, so as to leave adequate space for car movement along the E side of the driveway.
Despite the warning signs along the driveway, actually all of the 4 large Cohen dogs (3 Siberian Huskies and a Rottweiler) are friendly.
