Pinnacle Mountain Hike

Friday morning.

A challenging, strenuous three-mile loop over Pinnacle Mountain. 1.5-2.5 hours. From the top is a spectacular view of Lake Maumelle, the Arkansas River Valley, the Ouachita Mountains and west Little Rock. We will begin on the Base Trail, a gently rolling, pleasant trail from the edge of the Little Maumelle River, through upland forest and floodplain hardwoods, along the boulder-strewn eastern base of Pinnacle Mountain. Then we will ascend Pinnacle Mountain on the East Summit Trail, which is the more rugged 3/4-mile ascent to the summit and requires crossing several boulder fields. We will descend on the less rugged West Summit Trail.

Trailhead Location: Exit 9 off I-430 at Little Rock and travel seven miles west on Hwy. 10, then go two miles north on Hwy. 300.

To Participate: We will carpool from the hotel on Friday morning. Please contact Betsy (b.walli@alum.mit.edu) if you are interested in joining us, as we need to make sure we have enough room in the car(s).
